COMMUNITY FRIENDS
Both Eighty-Eight and Strathcona have groups within the community that they have built close relationships with. Below is a list of those friends and in what way we are involved with them.
Jacobs Well
Jacob’s Well is an ecumenical, non-profit organization devoted to sharing the message of Jesus in word and action with socially marginalized people living in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, BC. NLV Community supports them in a number of ways.
Positive Haven
Provides HIV/AIDS- and hepatitis C-related community education and direct services to residents of the South Fraser region. Direct services for those with HIV and hepatitis C include lay counselling, advocacy, pre- and post-test counselling, referrals, and a support group. In partnership with the Djaeff Mahler AIDS Benefit Society and Surrey Food Bank, operates the The Djaeff Mahler Grocery, a specialized high-protein food bank for residents in the South Fraser Health Region who are HIV-positive or have hepatitis C and are in need of support. Eighty-Eight helps support them in a number of ways.
Water Shed Arts Cafe
The Water Shed Arts Cafe is a local venue in the Walnut Grove that Eighty-Eight often frequents and has built a great friendship with. Promoting and supporting the arts, you will find many of the artists in NLV being given a stage at this venue as well as becoming a home and meeting place for many in the Langley area.
Opportunity International
Opportunity International provides small business loans, savings, insurance and training to people living in poverty in the developing world. Clients in over 25 countries use these financial services to start or expand a business, develop a steady income, provide for their families and create jobs for their neighbors. Motivated by Jesus Christ's call to serve the poor, Opportunity serves all people regardless of race, religion, ethnicity or gender. NLV Community supports them in a number of ways. |
