CURRENT TEACHING SERIES

Eighty-Eight Teaching Series 2010 :: Kingdom Living

In the New Year we will be starting a journey exploring the topic of living well addressing questions such as 'what does it mean to live well?' or 'what does a good kingdom life look like today?'. Using Scripture and also the stories and lives of the Saints/Christians through the ages we will delve into discovery and learning.

There will also be a really practical element to the year looking at the health of our lives such as relationships, finances, jobs and work etc through workshops and other services. As well as this we will continue to create opportunities to learn and practice spiritual disciplines. Watch out for resources appearing soon here on this page.

Strathcona Teaching Series 2010 :: Holy Living

This year we believe our overarching posture as a congregation is toward "holy living". But what does that mean? We tend to think of “holy living” referring to those who have a "special call" e.g monks or nuns or we think of those who are somehow cloistered and far from the ordinary. Many of us might think that holiness in this world is an impossibility i.e. isn't holiness all about following rules? and what about those of us who feel very far from being holy and have a lot of struggles right now?

As we journey this year, we are strengthened by the fact that we are not trying to figure this stuff out alone but we are allowing God’s book to teach us, the work of Holy Spirit to shape us and the community around us to encourage and challenge us.

At the beginning of the New Year, we will be looking at the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7 and the implications to live out this message in our own lives personally and in the lives of our community.  If it could be summed up, we might call it “how to live a holy life” i.e. how to live a life that is dedicated to and pleasing to God, free from hypocrisy, full of love and grace and a life full of wisdom and discernment.

After Easter we’ll be looking at the book of Ephesians. The book emphasizes our need as followers of Christ to have sound doctrine. It shows us that if we have Christ at the centre of our lives both individually and as a community, it will really effects how we live as followers. Sometimes there can be a tendency to want to ignore "theology" and jump to things that are more "practical". But the aim of the book is to explain that Christ must be our bedrock and that knowing our standing as believers and our call as followers, actually helps solidify and equip us as a church body towards holiness and right living
